"Spring Surf Checker" - 12" x 9" watercolour painting

Sometimes that Spring urge gets you all suited and booted  and waxed up, only to get to the beach and find out it's still freezing in a fresh onshore wind and the surf is junk.
This guy was keen as mustard today, I think that he stood there checking longer than he actually surfed for. Don't worry my friends, warmer weather is just around the corner.

Have a great day!

  £145 framed. Sold.

BigSplashySlider -watercolour surfer

After the fun I've had painting this series on a 12 x 9 inch size, I felt the urge to paint them bigger and see what came out using bigger mop brushes. This is the first of  them on a 20 x 16 inches watercolour pad. I'm excited to go even larger with them, using the bigger brushes made for looser more spontaneous washes and strokes, then using the same brush held right on the tip of the handle in a vertical position for the detailed parts made for a really pleasing painting experience. I hope you like it? Now I have to go and find some bigger sheets of watercolour paper.

Have a great day!

"Slide on!" - watercolour surfing.

I'm really enjoying painting these new SplashySliders, using the watercolour pigment and a mop style brush feels loose and fluid, a natural medium for trying to convey the elusive element of stylish surfing.

"SplashySurfer #3" 12 x 9 inches Framed.

£120 Sold!

"Idyllic"- oil painting on a sunny day.

Well after what seems to be an endless barrage of wet and gloomy weather, we have had summer return to our shores today, and boy, it felt good!
I had a commission to do for a customer, so I opened the door and windows in the studio and soaked up that summer vibe.
Here are a few photos of my process today, it was fun!

Before the wind...

...came up. It looked glassy and fun. The breeze soon freshened and it all went a bit choppy.
Looks fun today though!

Just Peelin'

A lot of wind but some beautiful peelers.
I spent the day with a painting workshop, teaching a lovely lady called Lisa . We spent a fantastic day over in Lee Bay sheltered from the breeze, great autumnal light and some crazy skies with dramatic cloud shapes.

October Skies oil on canvas board 14 x 10 , this painting will be on display as part of my
exhibition High Tides & Rolling Hills at the Queen's Theatre Gallery from Nov 9th -Dec 11th 2009
