A high tide surge at sundown, bathes the rocks on Woolacombe beach leaving a golden glisten as it recedes.

I really love the way that the muted palette creates a warmth in this little painting. Especially adding a touch of alizarin crimson into the rocks, giving them that glow.

They are back- the painted ladies of Woolacombe!

It is with much joy that I happily inform you that the painted ladies of Woolacombe are back on the beach. That can only mean that the May Bank Holiday and Summer are not far away!

Starting to feel some warmth!

A trip across the river to Instow ,while my wife played football and my daughter slept, something about a lazy Sunday feel with boats bobbing in the harbour that makes everything seem very restful.

"Harbour Lights" - getting loose with watercolour!

Ilfracombe harbour is a place that keeps on drawing me in. everytime I visit , it shows me a new composition waiting to be painted.

This was painted from the quayside looking across to the old chapel on the hill, one of the oldest, if not the oldest working marine light in the UK.

Thanks to the kind people at St.Cuthberts Mill, I received some watercolour samples to try. This is the first one that I painted on Saunders Waterford 300gsm Rough, and very nice it was too, a good paper that held the pigment well yet was still smooth enough to allow detail work. I will definitely be using this paper again!
