"Curries and Sunsets''

It doesn't get much better than this. Picture a warm evening on a shell beach in a little secluded cove, feasting on a genuine Sri Lankan curry, and the best bit?.....it's right here in Devon!

Have a great day!

"The Warmth of The Sun" - Spring's coming!

What a joy to have three days of warm, sunny weather , groomed by a southerly wind that started out from Spain. Spirits lift, limbs move with a bit more bounce and the creative pool gets filled up with gorgeous light and strong shadows.

One of my favourite things about living right on the coast, is the smell of gorse when it is in flower. A warm, heady scent of coconut and honey, with a bit of musk thrown in. Delightful!

"Spring Surf Checker" - 12" x 9" watercolour painting

Sometimes that Spring urge gets you all suited and booted  and waxed up, only to get to the beach and find out it's still freezing in a fresh onshore wind and the surf is junk.
This guy was keen as mustard today, I think that he stood there checking longer than he actually surfed for. Don't worry my friends, warmer weather is just around the corner.

Have a great day!

  £145 framed. Sold.

Are you getting that Spring feeling?

Do you get that pleasant feeling when the calendar flips over to the first of March? It's starting to get lighter and brighter every day and the creative wellspring is rising. I'm itching to get outdoors and paint again.
It feels like I'm ready to burst with ideas and places to paint this year. Winter has a habit of doing that to a creative soul, which is one of the positives of being cabin bound for a good few months.

I hope you get some of that Spring feeling today!

"Rush Hour on the Tideline" watercolours at the beach.

One of those  beautiful late Spring morning's today, the wind swung around to the North which cooled things down a touch, but the payoff was a clear , crisp light.
Took my kit down to middle beach and after a quick paddle in the sea and a cup of tea, I painted back towards Woolacombe and Morte Point. A constant stream of tide walkers passed my easel  and were a joy to sketch.
Looking forward to more days like these.

12 x 9 framed £145 Sold.

Have a creative day!

"Keeping up with the news" -watercolours on Woolacombe Beach.

Derek's diggers are busy preparing the sand base for the beach huts to go up on next week. Soon they will be a maze of windbreaks and Deckchairs all vying for a secluded spot of beachside real estate.
I love this time of year! I'm excited to get down on the beach for some plain air painting. Here's to a good Summer.

"Mid-afternoon dip, Barricane Beach" - Win a free framed one off print of this watercolour painting!

Just when I thought Summer had given up the ghost and Autumn had muscled in a bit too early, up pops a little scorcher like today!
I hooked up with an old friend Conor Wilson, who I hadn't seen all Summer and we set up down on Barricane Beach to paint some watercolours.
The light today blowing in on a North-Westerly wind was sharp and so clear. This couple obviously weren't prepared to give up on Summer either as they went for a little dip into the sea.

If you would like to win a one - off framed print of this painting, all you have to do is "Subscribe to my blog" by popping your email address into the box on the right of this page, then check your email for a link to verify that you have subscribed and your name will go into the hat for next Friday's draw.

Let's hope for an "Indian Summer"!
