"Early morning glow"- Florence, Italy in watercolours

It's a  special feeling when you awake from a good, deep night's sleep, eat a full breakfast and set out with an open day's exploring ahead of you. Especially when you are greeted with some warm , Italian sunshine and no wind, a perfect start to a painting day. It didn't take long before Florence's medieval streets started offering up strong prompts for painting. The old, tall buildings threw the narrow streets into a medieval darkness that changed as you turned a corner , setting the other side of the street ablaze with October sunshine. With that kind of splendour, it wasn't long before we were sketching passionately and breaking out the watercolours.

"Rush Hour" - Florence , Italy in watercolours

12 x 9 inches Watercolour on rough paper- Framed and available from my Fine Art website here.

"At certain times of the day, you had to be completely on your guard as you wandered the medieval streets, for within seconds you could find yourself at the mercy of a group of speeding cyclists all on their respective journeys. Sometimes with a friendly shout, other times a tinkle of the traditional handlebar bell or if unlucky, the scowl of a stressed two wheeler who has had far too many near misses that morning. Still it's lovely to see that the centre of such a busy city has been pedestrianised and free for bicycles and pedestrians to dance their daily sidestep together without the four wheeled enemy to worry about.
Have a great day!"

"Florentines Pontes" - watercolours in Italy

© Steve PP
With just two days to go until our Tuscan watercolour trip begins, I've been practicing squinting at busy architectural, urban scenes, completely different to the seascapes that I'm used to. There's nothing like a new subject matter to get all the buttons pushed.

Have a great day!
