"Mending the Nets" watercolours from a Greek Island.

There's an inherent joy in watching somebody happy and engrossed in their work. Whilst I was painting this harbour scene on Hydra, this fellow started mending his nets accompanied by an old transistor radio blasting out Greek Music, the harder he worked the louder his singing got. All bathed in the heat of the midday sun.

You can see the full painting on my fine art website here.

"From The Donkey Path" watercolour painting in the Aegean.

This was the view from the path that the donkeys used to take supplies up to the old monastery ontop of the island. Halfway up in the midday heat was enough for me. On a quiet island, this place was absolutely still, except for the cicadas clicking away in the dry brush.

"Dusk Delight"

"Dusk Delight"  watercolour 12 x 9 inches.
Available from my fine art website.

As the sun slowly sank on another warm day, the harbour glowed with a special warm light. I don't know what makes it so special, maybe it is dust from the Sahara, the colour of the rocks , the clarity of the sea reflecting rays, who knows, maybe someone can educate me?

Have a great day!

Boats bobbing in the warm Mediterranean Sun.

With no cars or even automated transport allowed on the island of Hydra, your options are either donkeys or boats. Water taxis take you around the island and fishing boats bring in their salty wares, whilst the gin palaces bring in their wealthy matelots to inhabit the harbour side tavernas, kafeneions, shops and galleries.

The boats caught my eye. They range from traditional wooden fishing boats, larger caiques upto modern fibreglass cruising yachts and the larger luxury boats.

Every inch of harbour is packed with boats oozing character and screaming out to be painted.
These were just a few that I painted.
