The Gate - Beach Plein Air oil painting

17 x 15 inches framed.

I painted this down on Combesgate Beach on a beautiful sunny day, with clear skies and weather front looming over the horizon. halfway through the painting the wind picked up and the clouds scurried across, changing the light randomly every few minutes.
I was pleased with the resulting study though, as the speed of the painting kept everything much looser than usual.

Pochade at The Gate

Stunning light this morning, so I took a walk up ontop of BlackCloud hill and painted the view down over the Gate using my little old antique Pochade box. Quite a different experience to using the sketchbox easel, which is sturdier and larger. The little pochade is only 250 x 160 mm[ 10 x 6 inches. A good exercise in only painting what you need to and leaving all the extraneous stuff out.
